THE SIGN OF GOD'S CREATIVE AND REDEMPTIVE POWER
A : Hello. I wanted to ask you something. What does it really mean to remember the Sabbath to sanctify it? Does that mean the Sabbath day itself isn't holy and needs to be made holy?
B : Great question. Actually, no. The Sabbath is already holy. It's not the day that needs sanctification.
It's us who need to become holy.
A : Oh, interesting. So, the day itself is already set apart by God?
B : Exactly. The Sabbath is described as a sign that God is the one who sanctifies us. The day is perfect and holy, but we're not. That's the point.
A : Hmm. But then, what's the purpose of remembering it? What part of the Sabbath are we supposed to remember?
B : We're supposed to remember that God is the one with the power to make us holy. The Sabbath is a sign of God's creative power.
The same power that created the world in 6 days and rested on the seventh is
the power that can transform an unholy heart into a holy one.
A : So, it's not just about resting on that day?
B : Not at all. And this is important.
You can observe the Sabbath faithfully, but if your heart isn't changed, it means nothing.
Even the religious leaders in Jesus' time kept the Sabbath strictly, but they were full of hatred and envy toward Jesus himself.
A : Wow. So, they were doing the right thing outwardly, but it didn't save them?
B : Right. Jesus told them they were children of the devil, not of God, because their hearts were evil. If salvation came from just keeping the Sabbath day correctly, they would have been the first ones in heaven.
A : That's a powerful point. So, what does it take [2:00] to truly keep the Sabbath then?
B : You have to become a transformed person first. Only people whose hearts have been cleansed and made holy can truly keep the Sabbath in a way that matters for salvation.
A : But how does that happen? How do we get cleansed?
B : Through the power of the Holy Spirit, not through our own effort. The Holy Spirit's power, symbolized by the early rain, works to cleanse us from every trace of sin. Without that transformation, we're just going through the motions.
A : So, keeping the Sabbath is actually an expression of faith?
B : Exactly. When we truly keep the Sabbath, we're saying, "I trust that God's power can make me holy." It's not trying to save ourselves through works. It's trusting in God's transformative power.
A : And if we don't have that faith?
B : Then we're just trying to earn salvation by our own effort, [3:00] which doesn't work. Jesus said, "Without me, you can do nothing." We can't cleanse ourselves, no matter how perfectly we keep the law. >> >>
A : So, the Sabbath is like a sign pointing us to God's power.
B : Only those whose characters are completely free from even a speck of sin will receive God's seal on their foreheads. This work is done by the Holy Spirit.
A : So, it's an ongoing process?
B : Yes. The early rain cleanses us, and the latter rain matures our character and prepares us for heaven.
But neither happens through keeping rules. It happens through trusting God's power and letting him work in our hearts.
A : That completely changes how I think about the Sabbath. It's not about perfecting my behavior. It's about trusting God to perfect me.
B : Now you've got it. And when you truly have that faith, your good works, including keeping the Sabbath, naturally follow.
[4:00] Your changed heart will shine as a light to others, glorifying God.
A : Thank you for this conversation. That was really enlightening.
B : You're welcome. It's a perspective that transforms everything.
