1. It is the work of the youth to make advancement day by day.
2. Peter says, “Add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
3. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” MYP 45.2
4. All these successive steps are not to be kept before the mind's eye, and counted as you start; but fixing the eye upon Jesus, with an eye single to the glory of God, you will make advancement.5. You cannot reach the full measure of the stature of Christ in a day, and you would sink in despair could you behold all the difficulties that must be met and overcome.

All these successive steps should not be merely thought of and calculated as we begin; but by fixing our eyes on Jesus, with our eyes fixed on the glory of God, we will make progress.
We cannot attain the full measure of Christ's stature in a day, and we will sink into despair if we see all the difficulties we must face and overcome. We must face Satan, and he will try in every way to draw our minds away from Christ.
